Why digital "zoom" on phones suck

Most don't get it

I cringe when I see people pinch the screen on their phone cameras to supposedly get closer instead of using the dedicated “optical” zoom buttons.

They are accessing “digital” zoom, one of the worst photography lies that does nothing but produce crappy looking photos.
